Expedite work on developmental projects to avert cost escalation :CM

While presiding over review meeting on developmental projects being executed in Mandi district today, Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur directed the officers to complete the developmental projects within the stipulated period so as to avoid cost of escalation of the projects, besides providing facilities to the people in time.

Jai Ram Thakur said that the state government was committed to ensure balanced and uniform development of every part of the State with special emphasis on development of those areas which have remained neglected due to one reason or the other.   He said that top priority should be accorded for construction of roads and bridges in the area.  The efforts would be made to ensure that Mandi town becomes a prominent tourist attraction, for which the historic and heritage aspect of the town would be promoted in a big way.

The Chief Minister said that Shiv Dham would be constructed at Kangnidhar which would be an added attraction for the tourists. He said that the expression of interest for appointment of consultant was at the final stage. He said that old library would be shifted to newly renovated building and old library would be converted to reading room with a capacity of about 250 students.

Jai Ram Thakur said that adequate parking space would be developed in Mandi town to facilitate the local as well as tourists. With a view to decongest Mandi town, efforts would be made to shift police line to Dhangsidar. He said that in order to beautify the town, efforts would also be made to erect entry gates at four entry points. He also directed the officers to explore possibilities to construct bye pass at Mandi to decongest the town. He also suggested the officers to explore possibilities to construct waking path on both the banks of river Beas.

Deputy Commissioner Mandi Rugved Thakur conducted the proceedings of the meeting.

Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Sanjay Kundu, Engineer in Chief PWD D.S. Dehel, Additional Deputy Commissioner Mandi and other officers were present in the meeting.

Earlier, the Chief Minister inaugurated the 156.40 meter span bridge over Beas River near Victoria Bridge constructed at a cost of Rs. 25.50 crore. He also inaugurated addition building of deputy director higher education constructed by HIMUDA at a cost of Rs. 1.58 crore.

Jai Ram Thakur said that under Sahara Yojna 2071 total applications have been received till today and 549 people have been benefited. He said that Rs. 27.45 lakh total amount has been granted to beneficiaries and Rs. 33.85 lakh total budget received till today.

Chief Minister also participated in the Signature Campaign launched by the district police against drug abuse.

MP Ram Swaroop Sharma, MLAs Anil Sharma, Vinod Kumar, Inder Singh Gandhi, Rakesh Jamwal, Jawahar Thakur and Hira Lal, General Secretary Child Welfare Council Payal Vaidya and Chief Medical Officer Dr. Jana Nand were present on the occasion among others.
